chitchatovercoffee: Tanjung Tuan Lighthouse

Posted: 16 Sep 2012 08:30 AM PDT

We joined a group of homeschoolers to explore the Tanjung Tuan lighthouse. Entry into the forest reserve is $2 for adult. Kids are FOC.
Brief history of Tanjung Tuan (Cape Rachado)
The lighthouse is technically in Melaka. Not Negeri Sembilan. And it's still functioning. The light is switched on from 7pm to 7am daily.
It's about 10 minutes walk to the light house. I think u can also request to drive up. But that will not be so fun right? ;-)
Entry into the lighthouse is restricted. U need to write in and get permission.
The one who were very happy to skip school.
We started the tour with briefing from the officer in charge (the guy in purple shirt).
All the lighthouses in Malaysia.
After visiting the generator room, the guy told us...that's it. We were like...whaaaattt??? That's it?? Cannot go up?? He told us we cannot go up due to security reason. But...but...how can u go to a lighthouse and don't go up??? I am not sure how the guy changed his mind. But somebody somehow managed to convince him to allow the adults to go up. At our own risk
The "not so adult" who insisted to go up and managed to squeeze her way through.
On top of the lighthouse.
After the lighthouse tour, some of us continued to explore the forest reserve.
The trail is very nice. It's suitable for beginners. But it's quite steep. And it's quite a long walk. The great thing of being a 5yo is u can always make your daddy carry u.
And if your daddy is tired, your brother can take over.
This was what we get after the long walk. Bliss ;-)
Kids got to work right away. Nobody was complaining of being tired. There's so much to learn from nature.
Loads of seaweed. Kids had fun collecting them.

Sea grapes. Apparently this is edible.
Some kids really seized the moment. Rolling in the deep ;-)
Hermit crab. Quite big actually. And the aspiring zoo keeper was just too engrossed to worry the crab will bite her.

We spent quite some time at the beach. The walk up the hill was tougher. I managed to convinced Little Missy to walk on her own. Thanks to the magic walking stick.
Tanjung Tuan is also one of the raptors migratory route. If u come here sometime around March , u can actually watch the raptors and witness one of the world's natural wonder.
We had a really good day. Despite the pain and the cramps after the trip ;-)
