ALOR GAJAH: A 17-year-old, allegedly unhappy with his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination results, died yesterday at Hospital Melaka a day after he was believed to have consumed poison.

E. Premkumar was said to have consumed the poison about noon on Wednesday and was found in a weak condition by his friends who took him to the hospital.

His father, K. Eswaran, 45, said he had sent his son, who had returned to Malacca from Singapore where he was working for the past four months in a factory, to collect his SPM results.

"On Wednesday morning, about 10.30am, I sent my son from our home in Durian Tunggal to school to collect the results.

"When we arrived at the school, Premkumar asked me to leave and said he would return home after meeting with some friends later. I gave him RM20 and left.

"I was told by his friends that after collecting the results Premkumar and his classmates had gone to Durian Tunggal town but he (Premkumar) was not his usual self.

"He was quiet and went missing before his friends found him in a weak state and unable to walk properly," he said at the mortuary yesterday.

A teenager collapsed and died after he received his SPM examination results here.

P. Eshwaran, 46, from Durian Tunggal, said his son E. Prem Kumar, 18, was rushed to a clinic by passers-by at about 3pm yesterday after he collapsed in front of a row of shophouses.

He claimed that Prem Kumar was believed to have consumed pesticide shortly after taking his result slip at 1pm on Wednesday.

Eshwaran said he was informed of the incident when his son was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Malacca Hospital.

However, Prem Kumar died due to internal organ damage at about 6pm yesterday.

"I believe he might have not been happy with his results. He did not return home after going out to get his results," he said.

Eshwaran said his son met his uncle and told him that he had failed several subjects, although he did quite well in the trial examinations.
